Late Tuesday night the sports world all felt the pain of what nobody really expected to happen, at least this season. The Giants coaching staff under Ben Mcadoo decided to bench the 2x Super Bowl champion and 14 year vet for… Geno Smith? Reactions came all night and all day Wednesday from some of the biggest stars in the game. Phillip Rivers blasted the Giants and really spoke his mind on the subject. “I honestly thought it was pathetic,” Rivers said Wednesday. “He’s been out there 210 straight games — with no telling how many bumps and bruises and injuries — for his team. He won two Super Bowl MVPs. And with the respect he’s had in the locker room over the years, and really the respect he’s gained throughout the league, you feel like the guy has earned the opportunity — if they are in fact deciding to go another direction — he’s earned the opportunity to finish it off these last five weeks.”
I think this is what majority of the public is thinking right now. It’s not like the Giants are doing well and Eli is holding them back. Eli has done his due diligence and put in his work already, people seem to forget that he started 210 GAMES STRAIGHT. At 36 years-old Eli still has some gas in the tank, or at least we hope. Geno Smith has already proved his unreliability to the league when he made his time with the Jets rather irrelevant.
The worst part about the situation is that Ben Mcadoo is basically asking himself to be fired at this point. The flaming dumpster fire of a team that he’s leading now just seems like a sinking ship, going nowhere in a hurry. Are we going to see a lot of change coming soon in East Rutherford?
